Huck Sanders is an average college student with no special skills. He pays his taxes, goes to church, and calls his grandmother often.

Following a minor misunderstanding with an important dignitary, Huck is charged with a serious crime and made to stand trial. He is issued a public defender, a ration of oxygen, and a court date. On the way to court he makes a discovery about the universe and his place in it, which threatens the stability of the galactic order.
